Crucial Things that You Have to be Aware of Before Getting That First Puppy

Puppies are cute, sometimes so much that we conveniently forget that there are certain important things that we have to be aware of before getting a new fuzzy pal. There are a lot of decisions, for instance, that you have to make and quite a few factors to consider before deciding to host a new puppy in your home e.g where are they going to sleep and whether or not you are going to be around to take excellent care of the animal. Without further ado, here's a quick primer on what you should know regarding this.

- Are You 100% Ready for a Pet?

As much as puppies may be incredibly cute and cuddly, there can be extremely time-consuming. If anything, you may not know this if you have never had a puppy before until three or four days after they have settled in your home. You see, raising a puppy calls for a certain level of commitment that most people may not be ready to give, especially if they already have a busy lifestyle.  Apart from house-training the animal, the puppies have to be fed at least three times a day, and you may also want to be aware that the puppy cannot be left alone for more than a few hours at a time. In other words, you may want to carve some decent time out of your daily schedule for you to keep your puppy well-attended.

- Know the Type of Puppy That is Right for You

Once you have weighed and balanced out the various pros and cons of having a puppy under your roof, the next thing is settling on the breed or type of puppy that would be ideal for you. For instance, how small or big would you want the dog to be? Small dogs are generally better for smaller spaces while bigger dogs would naturally require more supplies, food, and medications to keep around.

- Where to Find That First Puppy

This one is pretty easy - you should consider adopting one first from your local dog shelter or pet rescue community. Otherwise, if your budget allows, you can purchase a purebred dog from an experienced and licensed breeder with a stellar reputation.
